The annual picnic was frightfully glamous with lace table cloths and Pimms-with-the-works. Unfortunately, your correspondent had to make a quick exit with a stabbing headache and it was a prelude to some dramatic vomiting. (I reckon it was just a bit of heat and nothing to do with the food, which was as lovely as ever.)
Our next book is a recommended summer read from one of the commuter papers, The Son by Phillip Meyer and sounds like it will be a good yarn for the holiday season. It is set in Texas, starting from the 19th Century. (When we went to see Boyhood the other week we were astonished that schoolkids have to do two pledges of allegiance – the American and the Texan!) There are 6 copies in the public library service, but they’re currently all out on loan.
Our next meeting will be at Sue’s house on 11 September.
